| 1. If a sample is taken from a well, fitted with a hand pump, pump the water for about 5 minutes before collecting sample. 2. If the well is equipped with a mechanical pump, collect sample froma tap on the discharge. 3. If there is no pumping machinery, collect sample directly from the well by means of a sterilized bottle attached to a rope or stick of appropriate length. Fit a weight to the base of the bottle. Lower the bottle into the well. Take care to avoid contaminating sample by any surface scum. 4. After the sample has been collected, tighten the lid securely. Using an alcohol wipe, clean the outside of the bottle. |
